Game Lesson! (60′) Recycling vocabulary.

This is a game lesson for all levels & ages (from B1 CEF)! It’s called “password” and the rules are very simple! The game host (to be chosen in class) presents each of the pairs a password (this word will be taken from their material). Students will take turns and give only one-word clue to get their partners to guess what the password is. The team with more points after x words win. (number of words to be pre-decided by the teacher).

  • Interaction: T-SS (explaining the rules and arranging the desks)  / S-S (pairs) / Ss-S (trios).
  • Timing: 15′ (5′ setting the scene, 7′ watching the video, 3′ checking the rules)
  • Monitoring: Teacher walks around the room and checks if ss need help.
  • Feedback: clarify any words needed.
  • Instructions: 1. Answer the questions -shown on the board – in pairs. 2. watch the video and tell each other what the rules are.

Video can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1bbEakg49Qo

  • Do you know Jimmy Fallon? (If not – what does he do? / If so, do you like his TV show? Would you recommend it to a friend?)
  • Do you know the game password? What are the rules? Watch the video and go over the rules with your pair.

  • Interaction:  S-S (pairs) / Ss-S (trios).
  • Timing: 7′
  • Monitoring: Teacher walks around the room and checks if ss need help.
  • Feedback: clarify any words needed.
  • Instructions: 1. Talk to your peers and define the words from the video.

  • Smooch
  • Speedo
  • Quesadilla
  • Chuckle

(Here you can have a slide with the meanings for them to match or they have to come up with the meanings based on the words they used. It depends on the level of the students).

  • Interaction:  S-S (pairs) / Ss-S (trios).
  • Timing: 35′
  • Monitoring: Teacher walks around the room and checks if ss need help.
  • Feedback: clarify any words needed.
  • Instructions: 1. Write the words we have seen last class on these slips of papers. 2. hand in the slips to me. 3. get one word from this pile. This will be the password.
  • Checking instructions:
  • How many words can you give your pair?
  • Can you say the password on the paper?
  • Can you say things in Portuguese?
  • Can you define the password?

(students are going to write one word per paper – in the slips given. Teachers are going to make one pile and then divide them per groups. Students are going to take turns to get the slips and say only one word so their peer will guess what the password is. If they do guess, the student who said the word get the card. If they don’t guess nobody gets any cards).

You may go over the words to make sure students got everything.

Also, students can use the words in a sentence/question – using the words in context.
