Getting to know Bill Gates – (A fun lesson) 60′

Mid of term and with it a fun and lighter lesson to our B2 (CEFR) students. If you have never seen Bill Gates laughing or being tested, hold your horses.

3. Flexi-Stage (curiosity)

  • Timing: 5′
  • Monitoring: T walks around the room, helps students and takes notes on their contributions.
  • Feedback: Focus on vocabulary and pronunciation. Answer any further questions.
  • Steps: If time allows, present this to students and ask them if they knew that Bill has received a medal of freedom?

4. Pre-video Task (1) – Lead-in

  • Steps: Students are to watch a video and answer the following questions. But before they do, allow them 5′ to brainstorm on the possible answers. 1) At what age did William Gates become a billionaire? 2) What did he care about when he was younger? 3) Why does he describe himself as being conservative?

  • Steps: Students will check the following vocabulary. They are allowed to watch the video a second time.

What did they do? 3) What was the last extravagant thing you have bought? Was it a good deal? 4) What was the most expensive indulgenceyou have granted yourself?

  1. really great work. I added some of his foundation work to mine, but my advanced students really enjoyed the new phrases, “better off”, etc. Thanks for sharing
